When exploring Yucatan, Mérida is the starting point to all the routes of the Mayan world. 500 years ago Merida forged its roots as a great metropolis and as a starting point for the exploration of Yucatan. Founded over the Mayan city Tho, during the colonization in the conquest, it became the site of the Spanish Government.
Snorkel in a cenote is the first activity, followed by a walk around the magical Mayan community, spending time with a local family who will show you how to prepare your own tortillas with local ingredients from the region.
You will get to know their houses, customs, ways of life and even some words in Mayan; real close and personal contact with Yucatecan roots.
Venture by yourself on kayak through the hidden routes of the mangroves. Afterwards, you will visit the archeological site of X-cambo, an ancient Mayan city of great importance. We end this marvelous tour on the beach in Progreso to enjoy a delicious beachfront meal.
Enjoy an exciting tour through the caves. On this tour you will descend 20 meters and be impressed when you see the spectacular rock formations which descend from the ceiling and emerge from the floor. Lunch is a beautiful hacienda.
The Celestun Ria is an area of beautiful beaches, located west of Merida. Besides its’ natural beauty, Celestún is where one of the most exotic species adorns the beach, when in season, the pink flamingos.
